The second part of a good cover letter is the paragraph which sells the job-seeker. This should be a carefully worded, concise paragraph that contains aspects of personality and expands on job experience. The point of this paragraph, in a good cover letter, is to let the hiring manager know what the company will reap if they are chosen. The hiring process is tedious for all parties, so the hiring manager wants to ensure the person they take on is the right individual. So in a good cover letter, a hiring manager has to be positive of that. Also, a good cover letter should make a connection with the hiring manager and get them to want to meet an applicant for a job interview in order to find out more.
One of the aspects a cover letter usually lacks, especially for an Intern, is being straight forward. In the past, people have been encouraged not to come across as too forward. A cover letter was recommended to be as passive-aggressive as possible. However, in the current competitive field it is important to be aggressive. An Intern cover letter should come right out and ask for an interview. After all, that is the whole purpose of writing a cover letter right? Aggressive is not a dirty word anymore, and most companies see this in a positive light. If one's cover letter is confident, and a clear declaration, then they are classified as a ”go-getter”.
A personalized resume cover letter should, first and foremost, have a beginning sentence which makes the hiring manager interested enough to continue reading. If one can learn this value skill in writing a resume cover letter, then half the word is already done! A resume cover letter template will never be able to do this, no matter how special it or, or how much a website promises positive results. A resume cover letter template is just too general to be able to reach this accomplishment. So spend a little time learning what it is that makes a resume cover letter special, and then do it.
