I'm in my late 30s, and for the first time in over a decade I find myself in need of a job. I have been downsized. And I have to admit, my 12 year old resume needs some major work before I send it out. I have looked at many an example of a resume. The overall objective is the same: to tell an employer why you are the best qualified candidate for the position you are seeking. But there are many ways to get that message across. You need to find the best format to best showcase your experience and qualifications. You can look online for free resume makers, or there are usually some styles and formatting options in your word processing program. They will give you the basics of what you need. But depending on the job for which you are applying you may want to tweak those formats somewhat.
After your Name, address, contact information, and possibly a resume objective statement, you can begin to focus on what matters the most to the employer. Will they be more impressed with your education, or do they care more about your experience, or are they looking for specific qualifications. The job description for any particular position will give you a clue as to what is important to the employer. (And yes, I am suggesting you prepare a specific resume for each specific position you are applying for).
When putting together your resume, you ought to assure that it can be a excellent advertisement for you. The ideal student resume examples won't only give an overview of a candidate's background, but may also describe what they have done. As an example, saying for you to attended school at a certain school is adequate, but won't make you stand out to an employer. Noting that you've been on the honor roll, that you are enrolled in AP classes, or that you are a member of unique groups can assist you to stand out. These items can all indicate that you are an interesting individual with a range of skills and interests. At this stage in your career, including this sort of info on your resume can genuinely enable you to get ahead of other candidates.
