What this all boils down to is, take the time to write a cover letter for each particular job. Yes, this is going to be a more involved process but the rewards are going to be greater. Instead of needing to send out one hundred resumes with generic cover letters, there will only be a need to circulate a select number of personalized cover letters. This will allow the ability to choose the perfect job and encourage one to get excited about the potential of the position. It is not about quantity, it is about quality. In general, for every one hundred cover letters one sends out, they will only receive a response to ten percent. This does not mean the response will be favorable either. Between the option of sending out one hundred generic cover letters, with the return response of ten percent, or twenty personalized cover letters with the return response of thirty percent, which seems like the best method? Additionally, with the latter option, the responses are going to be favorable at least half the time.
Finally keep in mind that one does not have to spend money to hire professionals, or seek advice from experience individuals, in order to create a good resume. Everything one needs is right here. Job hunting can be frustrating, but by providing an employer with a good cover letter, it is going to increase the positive response to inquiries. There are several other free services, including the University career centers I mentioned earlier, which will provide assistance with writing a good cover letter.
Another great tip for an Intern cover letter is performing research on the company. If a cover letter includes information about the company, and the applicant uses that cover letter to share how the company information affects the individual, an employer is going to be impressed. For example, one may write in their cover letter that the company has produced product A, and B for Y amount of years. Then the Intern can relay their experience with the product, and why they want to support a company who makes it. A cover letter which demonstrates personality, and creativity, is more likely to be noticed than one who simply states ”I would like this Intern. I am qualified because…” in so many words. An Intern cover letter also has to show an applicant's attitude, and communication skills. If a cover letter reflects a well thought out structure, and an innovative approach, then the proof of a potential Intern's qualifications are in the pudding!
